This standard covers the basic requirements of material and dimensions of valve fittings for gas cylinders of more than 5-litre water capacity, for liquefied petroleum gas ( LPG ). It covers valves with taper stems only.

All components used in valve construction shall be made of material compatible with LPG and with the material of the cylinder. The material of the valve body shall comply.

IS 8737 are the reference materials for hot working. The mean Lead content provides good machinability of the forged part. Because of its Composition this alloy is suited for the production of LPG Valve.
